Chronic Pain Thesaurus

Chronic Pain Thesaurus
A chance operations poem*

Chronic.
Long-lasting, ongoing,
constant and continuous.
Unceasing, interminable, endless. Also,
Boundless. Infinite. Immeasurable.
Vast.
Cosmic.
Intergalactic, interstellar.
Star.
Brilliant…vivid…bright.
Cheerful?
Happy.
Content?
Gratified.

Pain.
Dis-comfort and un-easiness.
Restlessness.
Impatience.
Annoyance, exasperation, frustration.
Prevention.
Deterrence and discouragement. Pre-emption.
Anticipation.
Expectation.
Hope.

Process: I used the topmost “original” thesaurus option in MS Word. Meaning, the word had to continue an original string of words and not loop back on itself. I kind of like what fell out of that rusty bucket of uselessness.

*From Poets.org: “Chance Operations are methods of generating poetry independent of the author’s will. A chance operation can be almost anything from throwing darts and rolling dice, to the ancient Chinese divination method, I-Ching, and even sophisticated computer programs. Most poems created by chance operations use some original text as their source, be it the newspaper, an encyclopedia, or a famous work of literature.”
